Christmas presents vol 6.

The first one is for my friend, my son's godmother. The second one went to my husband's brother.

Pattern: Virna (Ravelry) by Jatta Saukko

She liked this very much. I'm just about to knit the last few rows of her cabled collar.

Pattern: Seaman's Cap by Brenda Zuk
Yarn: Lane Cervinia Le Fibre Nobili Mambo, light gray (2801)
Needles: 4 mm CN + CPN
double yarn, almost 4 skeins

Both yarns are from Karnaluks, Tallinn - yarnaholic's heaven.

Christmas presents vol 5.

One more! This one goes to my father who usually never wears caps but promised to wear one if I knit it.

Pattern: Seaman's Cap by Brenda Zuk
Yarn: Lane Cervinia Le Fibre Nobili Val Gardena, gray (251)
Needles: 4 mm DPN
4.5 skeins, double yarn

Christmas presents vol 4.

The next cap is for my husband's 10-year-old goddaughter. I have wanted to knit Aatos for a long time and now finally I got a chance. She can were it like this..

 ..or like this:

Pattern: Aatos by Kristel Nyberg in Ullaneule 02/09 (in English in Ravelry)
Yarn: Kauhavan Kangas-Aitta Oy Panda, brown (8259-1)
Needles: 3 mm, 3½ mm CN + DPN

Yes, I know - our son doesn't like to pose every time I knit something.

More Christmas presents next week, we are leaving to tomorrow and I'm going to forget TV and computer for a couple of days.

PS. I finally graduated three days ago!

Christmas presents vol 3.

For my teachers.

Pattern: Virna (Ravelry) by Jatta Saukko
Yarns: Schachenmayr Nomotta Extra Merino BIG, white (102) and beige (106) + Novita Isoveli, dark cyclamen (576)
Needles: 4 mm CN + DPN

I have now knitted 11 Virnas and there are still two more to knit!

Christmas presents vol 2.

These Virnas went to our son's kindergarten teachers. I asked him what colors those three women like and he chose white, red and blue skeins. Everyone got a crocheted flower too although I remembered to photograph only one of them.

Yarns: Schachenmayr Nomotta Extra Merino BIG, natural white (102), red (131) and blue (156)

Coming soon: more Virnas. Thanks Jatta, I'm stuck with this pattern!

Christmas presents vol 1.

A long silence. School's finally over and I will graduate this Saturday. After working for six months it's time to take a little break before starting again. I've been knitting a lot but can't yet present you anything but these.

For my husband's brother's fiancée, she already knows what she's getting.

Pattern: Virna (Ravelry) by Jatta Saukko
Yarn: Schachenmayr Nomotta Extra Merino BIG, beige/natural (103)
Needles: 4 mm CN + DPN

Yarn: Schachenmayr Nomotta Extra Merino BIG, beige/natural (103)
Needles: 6 mm CN

The color is actually light beige or maybe natural. Meiju has also made Virnas with this yarn but she calls the color gray. Either way, she has managed the picture this yarn we bought from our knitting club trip a way better than me.

For the winter.

Edellinen musta paksumpi piponi on jo parhaat päivänsä nähnyt. Jouduin pesemään sitä useasti, jonka seurauksena pipo kutistui liikaa. Malli oli kiva, mutta halusin kokeilla alla olevaa, jota varten ostin langat jo viime talvena.

My previous black hat is not wearable anymore. I had to wash it quite many times so it shrinked. The pattern was nice but I wanted to try the one below because I had already bought the yarns for it last winter.

Lanka: Drops Eskimo, musta (002)
Puikot: 6 mm
Koko: M
2 kerää

Yarn: Drops Eskimo, black (002)
Needles: 6 mm DPN
Size: M
2 skeins

Helppo neuloa ja miellyttävä käyttää. Voin suositella!

Easy to knit and nice to wear. I recommend!

For the lovely couple.

Lapaskuu (Mittens' Month?) has arrived again. I think this is my third time taking part in it but for the first time I've actually finished something - and it's only been four days! I thought I couldn't knit any mittens but then I made Cabled mittens in October. I was thrilled and couldn't wait for this project to start again. My first mittens are Lover's mittens. I didn't follow any pattern, just tried to make them fit. They are for my husband's brother and his fiancé as an engagement gift.

Sorry for the awful photo.

Pattern: Lovers' mittens
Yarn: Novita 7 Veljestä, black (099)
Needles: 3½ mm DPN
almost one skein

They have a tiny dog so I was thinking that they could were these while taking the dog out. I wish I could knit these kind of mittens for me and my husband too, but I don't think we could ever wear them. Our son gets so jealous if his father even looks at me and he would never allow us to walk hand in hand. But maybe then when we are gray and old....

The last ones.

Four pairs of socks in two months. I'm ashamed. I had so many patterns I was going to knit but these are the only ones I got finished. I've been really busy at school and at work and have knitted some Christmas presents (more about them later) but still - I'm embarrassed.

Pattern: tube socks
Yarn: Novita Nalle, pink (559)
Needles: 2.75 mm DPN

Hopefully I have better luck in next year's Sock Harvest.

Pink it is.

Sock Harvest is almost finished and I've knitted only three pairs. Oops.

Pattern: Super Baby Knee High Socks
Yarn: SandnesGarn Lanett, pink (4517)
Needles: 2.75 mm DPN

These go to my friend's daughter, her due date was eight days ago. Hopefully these socks get there in time.

1,5 skeins

For a friend.

Think pink.

I have started to prepare for another freezing winter in the land of Santa Claus. I usually wear brown coats so pink is the perfect color for my accessories.

Pattern: Virna (Ravelry) by Jatta Saukko
Yarn: Lana Cervinia Le Fibre Nobili Mambo, pink (2838)
Needles: 4 mm DPN
1,5 skeins

Pattern: Cabled collar by Kalastajan vaimo
Yarn: Lana Cervinia Le Fibre Nobili Mambo, pink (2838)
Needles: 6 mm 80 cm circular needle
6 skeins

Pattern: Cabled Mittens by me
Yarn: Lana Cervinia Le Fibre Nobili Mambo, pink (2838)
Needles: 4 mm DPN
almost 2 skeins

I really like this set. I have fallen in love with Virna and I'm knitting my fourth one at the moment. Still eight more to go - for Christmas presents. Cabled collar is also really nice. I have promised to knit two more for presents aswell. But I have to say that I'm most proud of my mittens. My mittens. I thought I couldn't knit that kind of thumbs! The pattern will be available later this month.

This Italian Mambo (bought from Karnaluks, Tallinn) has become one of my favorite yarns. Thank God my yarn-a-holic knitting club friends have already tricked me to order some more with them!

Don't tell my husband.

5,75 kg.

Last Saturday was a wonderful day for our knitting club ladies. We went to Karnaluks, Tallinn to buy some yarn. Not much, as you can see:

The weather was perfect and we had so much fun. We left our husbands and little children home and were able to eat and drink champagne without anyone complaining or whining all the time. Yes, we got some amusing glances while knitting on board and someone even took a picture of us, too but who cares - we got to knit and gossip all day!

We are already planning a new trip - maybe at spring time. Or December. But before that I've got a lot of knitting to do.

..and again.

Another Seaman's Cap for a friend's husband.

Pattern: Seaman's Cap
Yarn: Drops Merino Extra Fine, dark gray (03)
Needles: 4 mm DPN
Size: M
almost 4 skeins, double yarn

Easy (and a bit boring) to knit. Love the yarn!

Ankle Socks.

Viikko ei ole ollut paras mahdollinen, joten tällä kertaa sain valmiiksi vain yhden parin.

This week hasn't been the best for me so these are the only socks I was able to finish.

Malli: Lyhytvartiset sukat, Novita syksy 2010 (malli nro 90)
Lanka: Novita Isoveli, musta (099)
Puikot: 5 mm
Koko: nainen
1 kerä

Pattern: Ankle Socks, Novita Autumn 2010 (pattern no 90)
Yarn: Novita Isoveli, black (099)
Needles: 5 mm DPN
Size: woman
1 skein

Nopea neuloa, lämpimät jalassa. Hyvä keino käyttää jäljelle jäänyt kerä.

Easy to knit, warm to wear. Great way to spend the remaining skein.

Iiro.

For a long time I looked for a thick child cap with ear flaps that could be worn even at the coldest winter seasons. I was not able to find a proper pattern so I measured my son's head and started casting on stitches.

Malli: Iiro
Lanka: Austermann Merino 85, vaaleansininen (0015) sekä Novita Luxus Cloud, luonnonvalkoinen (011)
Puikot: 4 mm
1 neppari

Pattern: Iiro
Yarn: Austermann Merino 85, light blue (0015) and Novita Luxus Cloud, natural white (011)
Needles: 4 mm DPN
1 popper

Vaaleansininen lanka on ostettu Karnaluksista, Tallinnasta. Muistaakseni myös Menita Helsingissä myy sitä. Olen kirjoittamassa myssystä ohjettakin, jonka julkaisen, kunhan koeneulojani ovat saaneet sen ensin testattua.

The light blue yarn is bought from Karnaluks, Tallinn. If I remember correctly, Menita in Helsinki sells it, too. I'm writing the pattern at the moment and will publish it after some test knittings.

Harvesting.

Sukkasato 2010 on käynnistynyt ja olen mukana kolmatta kertaa. Aloitin neulomalla pienet junasukat ystäväperheen noin kuukauden päästä syntyvälle esikoistyttärelle.

This big Finnish sock knitting project called Sukkasato (Sock Harvest) has started again. This is the third time I'm taking part in it. I started by knitting tiny socks for our friends' first daughter who is expected to be born in a month.

Pattern: Junasukat
Yarn: Novita Florica, light pink (502)
Needles: 3 mm
knitted with double yarn

Kiva malli edelleen, joskin sukat ovat ihan vastasyntyneelle liian isot. Olen luvannut neuloa perheelle vielä Supervauvan polvisukatkin.

This is a nice pattern but these socks are way too big for a newborn. So I promised to knit Super Baby's Knee High Socks, too.

Caps again..

A friend of mine asked me to knit a simple brown cap for her husband. I chose Seaman's cap.

Pattern: Seaman's Cap
Yarn: Kauhavan Kangas-Aitta Oy Panda, brown (8259-1)
Needles: 4 mm DPN
Size: M
almost 4 skeins

I wanted this to be very warm so I knitted with double yarn. Now there's just one problem: my husband doesn't want me to send it away!

During these last two weeks I've got two amazing books: Neulekirja by Ilona Korhonen & Jenni Österman and Midwest modern knits by Rowan by Amy Butler. I'm going yarn shopping to Tallinn next month with my knitting club ladies and can't think of a bag big enough to take with me.

Yesterday was a Beautiful Day for me and my husband. We went to see the great U2 at Olympic Stadium of Helsinki.

Stuck with same patterns and yarns.

I know. But don't be afraid, it's not for my husband.

Pattern, yarn and needles same as two weeks ago.
